VOTERS in the Darwin electorate of Wanguri will go to the polls in a by-election sparked by the resignation of Paul Henderson.

The Australian Labor Party has been tipped to retain the seat in Darwin's northern suburbs during today's vote, which it currently holds with a 7 per cent margin.

Since seizing power in the Northern Territory in August last year the Country Liberal Party has pushed up power prices, blaming the high debt level of the government-owned Power and Water Corporation when they came to office.

The by-election became necessary when Mr Henderson announced his resignation in January, saying that after 13 years in politics he wanted his family to come first.
