FIREFIGHTERS have been battling 350 blazes in Victoria since the mercury began rising across the state on Thursday.

The news of unusually high fire activity came as more firefighters were called to an out-of-control blaze in Powers Creek at 3.20pm, the Herald Sun reports.

Up to 14 trucks were in the area fighting the rapidly travelling blaze which was headed in a south-westerly direction towards the Dergholm-Edenhope Road.

Another small, fast-moving grassfire also started in Kariah in the Hasties Lane area.

A CFA spokesman said the number of blazes starting across the state was expected to continue with high temperatures and winds expected tomorrow.

He said 65 of the fires had started from lightening strikes.
