UPDATE: IT'S been a horror day on Victorian country roads with three people losing their lives today.

An Air Ambulance helicopter has landed at the scene of a two-car crash at Bet Bet in Central Victoria this afternoon which has killed a man in his 60s.

Emergency crews attended the Maryborough-Dunolly Rd scene where two people were trapped in the vehicles.

A woman in her 40s is in a serious condition with back and chest injuries and will be flown to The Alfred in Melbourne.

A man, believed to be in the other car, is being taken to Bendigo Hospital for treatment.

Emergency crews is Gippsland have been kept busy with two fatal crashes this morning.

A 51-year-old Leongatha woman was killed in a horrific crash involving a street sweeper this morning in Foster North.
Police are investigating the crash which occurred on the South Gippsland Highway near Lundstroms Rd just after 8am.

A Victoria Police statement this afternoon said officers have been told a BMW sedan driven by a 21-year-old overtook a car travelling east along the highway before hitting the street sweeper.

It is understood the street sweeper in turn has collided with the car which was recently overtaken, killing its driver.
 
An Ambulance Victoria spokesman told Weekly Times Now when paramedics arrived at the scene they found a car under the street sweeper.

"A crane has only just got to the scene to lift the street sweeper off the car," he said earlier today.

Ambulance officers took the female driver of the street sweeper to Leongatha Hospital with minor injuries and shock.

The BMW driver was taken to Foster Hospital with leg injuries.

Police are also investigating the death of a motorbike rider in his 40s who crashed on the Monaro Highway at Chandlers Creek this morning.
