UPDATE: POLL Hereford bulls sold to $28,000 at Injemira today at a sale which defied the odds.

The offering of Hereford and Poll Hereford bulls near Wagga Wagga sold to buyers from Victoria, Tasmania and NSW with 65 bulls averaging $5554, only slightly down on last year for a similar number of bulls sold.

Principal Marc Greening admitted he was nervous before the sale but was thrilled with the sale which saw strong support from repeat buyers and new clients.

"It was easy to sell bulls last year but I won't forget who supported me today," Mr Greening said.

The sale topper drew bids from at least five different parties before eventually selling to Cam and Carol Emerson from Alva Downs at Merino.

Mr Emerson said the bulls estimated breeding values were excellent but so was the bull's structure.

"I liked the bull's EBVs particularly for milk, eye muscle area and growth and birthweight was good too," he said.

"But he is a bull that stands out and we had to pay what the market demands."

The bull will be used over pure Hereford and pure Simmental cows to produce sires they will then use in their own herd.

Koolomurt Pastoral Company from Coleraine paid the next highest price of $18,000 for a full brother to the top priced bull. Both were sired by Allendale National W168, a bull which is widely used in the Hereford breed.

Both these bulls, plus three others, were part of the same flush out of Injemira Happy Day D053 and sired by Allendale National W168. The five averaged $14,600.

Days Whiteface, from Bordertown, SA, paid the next best price of $14,000 for Injemira Cavalier G032, which had a birthweight of just 3.9 and growth figures of +65 for 600-day growth and +3.5 for eye muscle area.

Five bulls made $10,000 or more but 13 bulls were passed in.

The sale grossed $361,000, just $25,000 down on last year, where 68 bulls averaged $5683.

Injemira also sold 359 Hereford commercial females which grossed $322,000 and averaged $1040

The top-priced pen of females, a line of Woakwine-bred, Injemira-blood heifers, 22-23 months and 471kg, ptic to Injemira bulls to start calving in March, sold for $1250 to an Auctionsplus buyer.

This was equalled by a pen of Hereford heifers and calves, with the cows weighing 572kg and the calves 170kg. The heifers were rejoined in October. These sold to R Cooper, Clistow Herefords, King Island, Tasmania.
