A MELBOURNE-bound goods train struck an abandoned vehicle on train tracks in one of the largest suburbs of Geelong this morning.
Police are investigating whether the vehicle was stolen before being abandoned on St George’s Rd, across the Corio train line, the Herald Sun reports.
The train hit the car at 5am near North Shore Railway Station.
All trains have been stopped on the line until the tracks can be cleared.
No one has been injured as a result of the collision.
A spokesperson for V/Line said that the train involved was owned by a private freight company, however services are being affected.
"Coaches are replacing trains between from Geelong to Melbourne but we will not know when the service will be replaced until the scene has been cleared by police," the spokesperson said.
"The train involved in the incident was not a V/Line train, but our service has been disrupted."
