LAMB prices spiked by up to $18 at Wagga Wagga today as the market makes a dramatic turnaround.

The biggest rises were for trade lambs but rates also rose up by up to $12 for heavy lambs.

The best pen of lambs made $148 for a pen estimated to weigh 34kg carcass weight by the National Livestock Reporting Service.

And more and more lambs are cracking the magic 400c/kg mark with trade lambs averaging 480-493c/kg at today's market.

The offering of nearly 23,000 lambs was down about 7500 on last week's sale and sold to solid demand from domestic and export processors as well as lot feeders.

The entire offering of lambs averaged $95 or 433c/kg, a huge lift on two weeks ago where lambs averaged $80 or 353c/kg.
