THE Australian dollar closed marginally higher on Friday with cautious investors and a lack of fresh data keeping the currency within a limited range.

THE market was not as hot as at the mountain calf sales a week ago, but vendors still achieved $50 and up to $70 more per head at Heyfield's annual autumn store sale today than at the same sale last year.

GOOD-quality dairy cows sold at firm or slightly dearer rates at Victorian saleyards last week.
